The annual fall Scholastic Book Fair is coming to the PES Library! Choosing their own books empowers kids and inspires them on their journey to becoming lifelong readers. AND—as always—every purchase at the Fair benefits our school.

  • Preview days: Monday and Tuesday October 21 & 22, classes visit together
  • School day sales: Wednesday through Friday October 23 - 25, teachers send students with shopping money or eWallets during class (sales close Friday at 11:00.)
  • Evening family hours: Wednesday and Thursday October 23 & 24, 6:00 - 7:30pm

As we wait for the big event, there is plenty to explore and learn.

  • Visit our own Scholastic book fair site to explore Scholastic book offerings or set up eWallet as an alternative to sending cash with your child.

  • Sign up to volunteer!
  • Or get into all the details on our FAQ page including how your child will experience the fair.

Supporting PES Readers

Scholastic helps us support all PES readers, including those whose families need a little financial help. With donations to Share the Fair (formerly known as All for Books), we are able to help students in need own their own books, and we build up our teachers' classroom libraries to make sure everyone has access to great new books.

How can you help?

Donate Online

Please consider contributing to our school's Share the Fair eWallet. Alternately, if you are creating an eWallet for your child, you'll see fields for both adding your own child's funds and the option to contribute to our Share the Fair fund. Either method works and goes towards books for students with financial need at Providence. (Please ignore the grade level listed as 6th -- the eWallet form required we define one grade, but this Share the Fair eWallet is for all ages at Providence.)

Donate at the Fair

Students and families can also drop spare change in the donation box at the fair or round up their purchase amount at the register.

Thank you so much for helping all our PES readers access books.

Compete in the annual COIN CHALLENGE

This year, Tuesday October 15 through Friday October 18, each day represents a different type of coin.

  • Tuesday: Nickels
  • Wednesday: Dimes
  • Thursday: Quarters
  • Friday: Anything goes! Dollar bills welcome!

The class that collects the most wins a prize!

You Asked, We Listened:

Book Fair Frequently Asked Questions

What is the book fair?

The Scholastic Book Fair is a week-long pop-up store of awesome books set up in our own school library. Not only can kids purchase books for themselves or gifts, but we earn rewards for our library, which we use to add lots of books to our shelves.

What’s for sale?

Most of the fair is great kids’ books, from preschool through middle grade levels. There is also a limited number of books for adults, displayed in a separate area. There are also tempting pencils, fidgets, posters, and journals, so talk to your student about any rules you may want to set for picking actual books instead of these add-ons. Explore more on our school's Scholastic fair site.

Can I send cash into school with my child?

Yes! You can choose to send your child with cash in an envelope, baggy, or wallet they can take care of for a few hours. This is a nice practice run for carrying and using cash, and they will love the experience of handing cash over at the register and getting change.

Do I have to send cash into school with my child?

No, there are several options if you are nervous your student will lose or forget cash. You can A - visit school to shop with your child during his or her lunch period, B - visit our evening fair hours, or C - set up EWallet as a way for your student to pay at the fair. You can also purchase books online through our Scholastic fair site.

How does EWallet work?

EWallet allows you to go online and purchase a digital gift card that we’ll help your child access at the fair. Be sure to tell your student they have money in their EWallet. We look up students by name or teacher name. There is no fee. Note that unspent EWallet funds cannot be refunded, but can be carried over to future years’ fairs. Alternatively, you can choose to donate extra EWallet bucks to Share the Fair.

Can I use credit card at the fair?

    Yes!

When will my child visit the fair?

All students visit the fair once on Monday or Tuesday with their class for a preview. They may share a wishlist with you. Wednesday and Thursday teachers usually ask which students have money with them (or a funded EWallet) and send them to the fair during their language or content instruction time. (Kindergarteners have a teacher along with them to help.) Friday morning is the last chance to visit the fair, but many favorites are sold-out by this last day.

What is Share the Fair?

Book fair shoppers are invited to round up their purchase amount at the register or make a larger Share the Fair donation. These funds are used to purchase books for our own Providence students with financial limitations. This year we will have a special EWallet account to which you can donate. Thank you for donating to help our whole community participate in the joy of reading! (Note Share the Fair was called All for Books in previous years.)

How else can I help?

Please consider volunteering! Opportunities range from Friday Oct 18 morning fair set up, supporting at the fair throughout the book fair week, and taking down the fair on Friday Oct 25 in the early afternoon. There’s so much great book and kid energy surrounding the fair – you will have a blast. Thank you! SIGN UP HERE

How is the book fair different from the Scholastic fliers and online store my child’s teacher shared?

Separate from our school-wide, limited-time fair, Scholastic offers individual teachers the opportunity to earn books for their classrooms. Your child’s teacher may share a link to their own online Scholastic Book Club shop where you can order your child books and support your teacher stocking up their classroom library. It’s a great but separate opportunity.
